A policeman, Cosmas Ugwu, was shot and killed by his girlfriend, Amanda Uchechi Ugo, in Imo State. The incident happened around 6:30 pm on Boxing Day at the Ezinihitte Area Command. According to sources, officers nearby heard gunshots from Ugwu’s room and found him critically injured when they rushed in. He was shot three times in the chest and left hand by his girlfriend during a serious argument. Ugwu was taken to Evergreen Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival. This was part of the final report that the special investigator appointed by President Bola Tinubu in July, Jim Obazee, submitted on Wednesday, Dec. 20. The prospect of a future European Super League has been boosted after judges said UEFA rules blocking the formation of such a competition were contrary to EU law. The Grand Chamber of the European Court of Justice had been asked to decide whether UEFA and FIFA acted against competition law by blocking the formation of the European Super League in 2021 and then seeking to sanction the clubs involved. An Ekiti State Chief Magistrate Court in Ado Ekiti has sentenced 58-year-old Nurudeen Ibrahim to five years imprisonment with hard labour over conspiracy and false pretence with intent to defraud and indecent assault. The TCN in a statement on its Official X handle on Monday said the shutdown is part of efforts to fix a leaking gas pipeline. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention has officially verified the occurrence of a dengue fever outbreak in Sokoto State. In a statement released on its website this Saturday, the NCDC confirmed that the outbreak was identified in November 2023. The statement signed by the NCDC Director General, Ifedayo Adetifa, disclosed that so far, 71 suspected cases, 13 confirmed cases, and zero deaths have been reported in the state from three Local Government Areas -Sokoto South (60 cases), Wamako (three cases) and Dange Shuni (one case). It said the majority of the suspected cases reported fall between the age range of 21- 40 years. Dengue fever is a viral infection caused by the dengue virus and transmitted to humans through the infected mosquito’s bite. Human-to-human transmission of the virus has not been established. A Grade I Area Court in Dei-Dei, Abuja on Thursday sentenced a 31-year-old man Lawal Babangida to six months imprisonment for impersonating a military officer. The court charged Babangida, who lives in Tungamaji village Abuja with impersonation, criminal intimidation, and extortion. The convict, however, pleaded guilty to the charge and begged the court for leniency. “Please forgive me, my lord, I plead for mercy, sir. I will not commit any crime again’’ Babangida said. The Area Court judge, Saminu Suleiman thereafter, gave the convict an option of N6,000 fine, warning him to desist from committing a crime after serving their punishment.
