Hong Kong Begins China-led Mass Coronavirus Testing, Critics Urge Boycott

Image
Hong Kong began free coronavirus testing for all residents in the Asian financial hub on Tuesday, as the mainland Chinese-led initiative faced scepticism from the city’s medical community and public, with some activists urging a boycott. The initiative began at 8.00 am (0000 GMT), with a 60-strong mainland team conducting tests. It is the first direct help from China’s health officials for the semi-autonomous city as it battles the pandemic. The scheme has emerged as a politically charged issue, with authorities in Hong Kong and China saying critics are trying to smear the central government. Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam told a regular press briefing the testing was necessary to find invisible transmissions within society and urged medical workers to treat the testing “objectively and professionally.” The issue comes at a sensitive time with anxiety running high about what many of Hong Kong’s 7.5 million residents see as Beijing’s efforts to rein in their freedoms, in part

U.S. Increases Support For Taiwan, Says To Counter Rising China Pressure

Image
The United States said on Monday it was establishing a new bilateral economic dialogue with Taiwan, an initiative it said was aimed at strengthening ties with Taipei and supporting it in the face of increasing pressure from Beijing. Washington also said it had declassified six Reagan-era security assurances given to Taiwan, a move analysts said appeared intended to show further support for Taipei. The announcements come at a time of increasing Chinese threats towards Taiwan, and when relations between Washington and Beijing have sunk to their lowest level in decades. U.S. President Donald Trump is campaigning for re-election in November with a tough approach to China among his key foreign policy platforms. The State Department’s top diplomat for East Asia, David Stilwell, told a virtual forum hosted by the conservative Heritage Foundation the latest U.S. moves were not a policy shift, but part of a set of “significant adjustments” within Washington’s longstanding “one-China” poli

‘I am Taiwanese’ Czech Speaker Tells Parliament, Likely To Rile China

Image
The head of the Czech Senate declared himself to be Taiwanese in a speech at Taiwan’s parliament on Tuesday, channelling late U.S. President John F. Kennedy’s defiance of Communism in Berlin in 1963, in remarks likely to further rile Beijing. China, which claims democratic Taiwan as its own territory, has threatened to make Czech Senate speaker Milos Vystrcil pay a “heavy price” for visiting the island. The Czech Republic, like most countries, has no formal diplomatic ties with Taiwan. Addressing Taiwan’s parliament, Vystrcil, who is leading a delegation of about 90 politicians and business executives, said Kennedy’s declaration he was a Berliner was an important message for freedom and against Communism. “Please let me also express in person my support to Taiwan and the ultimate value of freedom and conclude today’s speech … with perhaps a more humble, but equally strong statement: ‘I am a Taiwanese’,” Vystrcil said, receiving a standing ovation. Israeli, U.S. Officials Land In UAE, Kushner Urges Palestinians To Negotiate

Image
Senior U.S. and Israeli officials landed in the United Arab Emirates on Monday on a historic trip to finalise a pact marking open relations between Israel and the Gulf state, and they told Palestinians it was now time for them to negotiate peace. White House senior adviser Jared Kushner also said on arrival that Washington could help maintain Israel’s military edge while advancing its ties to the UAE, the Arab world’s second largest economy and a regional power. Announced on Aug. 13, the normalisation deal is the first such accommodation between an Arab country and Israel in more than 20 years and was forged largely through shared fears of Iran. Palestinians were dismayed by the UAE’s move, seeing it as a betrayal that would weaken a long-standing pan-Arab position which calls for Israeli withdrawal from occupied territory and acceptance of Palestinian statehood in return for normal relations with Arab countries. Suga Leads Japan PM Race As Ruling Party plans Slimmed-down Leadership Vote

Image
Japan’s top government spokesman, Yoshihide Suga, moved a step closer to becoming the next premier after the ruling party decided on Tuesday on a slimmed-down leadership vote that favours the long-time lieutenant of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. Suga has also won the backing of the largest faction of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), media reported, making him a strong front-runner to replace Abe, who abruptly announced on Friday he was stepping down for health reasons. Suga has not publicly announced his candidacy for leader of the LDP but has indicated privately that he intends to run, a source told Reuters. Media reported he would formally announce his intention to run on Wednesday. The party’s leader will almost certainly become prime minister because of its majority in the lower house of parliament. Suga, 71, is widely expected to stay the policy course set out by Abe, including the “Abenomics” strategy aimed at reviving the economy and keeping it afloat amid the COVID-19 pan

Unions Protest Against Planned Concession Of Four Airports (photos)

Image
Workers under the aegis of the Association of Nigerian Aviation Professionals, (ANAP), and the National Air Transport Employees of Nigeria, (NUATE), have protested against the planned concession of four International Airports in the Country. The workers, who held the protest at the Ilorin International Airport in Kwara State on Monday, lamented that previous concessions by the Federal Government has not yielded any fruit, and handing over the four airports in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, and Kano to concessionaires, could lead to great loss to the country and loss of jobs to the people. Recently, the Federal Government said it has commenced the concession process after the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, received an outline business case certificate of compliance from ICRC. According to the Chairman, Association of Nigerian Aviation Professionals, Sunday Ugbeikwu, the move is not an acceptable one. “The Federal Government in conjunction with Minister of Aviation wants to conce

Barcelona Gives Messi Conditions To Leave

Image
Barcelona believe the only way Lionel Messi can legally leave for free, is if he chooses not to play any football next season, ESPN reports. The Spanish club’s interpretation of the much-debated clause in Messi’s deal, is that he could depart, but would have to forgo his wages for a season. Also, the 33-year-old would not sign for a new club until next summer, when his existing terms are due to expire. Messi is attempting to trigger a clause in the contract he signed in 2017, that allows him to leave for free at the end of each season. Barca has argued that the deadline for activating the clause expired in June. Messi’s legal team continue to argue that he’s already unilaterally rescinded his contract with the club. The player himself refused to show up for the start of pre-season on Sunday, but La Liga insisted Messi’s 700 million buyout clause remains active. from 9jaflaver https://ift.tt/2YOKyfd via IFTTT https://ift.tt/3lCstLm

New Zealanders Wear Face Masks As Auckland Lockdown Lifted

Image
Schools and businesses reopened in Auckland on Monday after the lifting of a lockdown in New Zealand’s largest city to contain the resurgence of the coronavirus, but face masks were made mandatory on public transport across the country. The Pacific nation of 5 million people had appeared to have succeeded in halting community transmission of COVID-19, but a fresh outbreak in Auckland prompted the government to place the city back in lockdown earlier this month. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern scaled back the restrictions in Auckland on Sunday, but made masks compulsory on public transport. Ardern said on Monday that she was confident the new measure would be taken up across New Zealand, adding that “a bit of smiling with the eyes behind the mask” and kindness to Aucklanders in particular, would help get the country through the latest outbreak. “We have a plan that we know will work. We just need everyone’s compliance and help. If everyone sticks to those guidelines and rules, coup

Protesters Crowd Minsk As Belarus Leader Gets Birthday Call From Putin

Image
Belarusians chanting “Happy Birthday, you rat” and flying red-and-white opposition flags gathered near President Alexander Lukashenko’s residence on Sunday as protesters kept up pressure on the veteran leader to resign, before dispersing peacefully. Lukashenko, who turned 66 on Sunday, is struggling to contain weeks of protests and strikes since winning an Aug. 9 election his opponents say was rigged. He denies electoral fraud and has said the protesters, whom he previously called “rats”, are backed from abroad. Russian President Vladimir Putin used a birthday phone call to invite Lukashenko to visit Moscow, a sign of the Kremlin’s willingness to back Lukashenko as he grapples with the unrest and the threat of new Western sanctions. Tens of thousands of protesters streamed into central Minsk, carrying balloons, flowers and flags, in the afternoon. Belarus had a white-red-white flag for a brief period in the early 1990s and it has become a symbol of its anti-government protests. Pa

Japan’s Ruling Party To Hold September 14 Leadership Vote; Four Possible Candidates For PM

Image
Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party plans to hold a leadership vote on Sept. 14 to replace Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who is stepping down due to ill health, local media reported on Monday. The new party leader will become the country’s next prime minister, due to the party’s parliamentary majority, with four possible candidates vying for the position. Abe, Japan’s longest-serving premier, told U.S. President Donald Trump earlier on Monday that the strengthening of their two nations’ alliance would be maintained even after he leaves office, a Japanese government spokesman said. But Abe’s successor will face a daunting list of economic, diplomatic and security issues, ranging from a stagnant economy hit by the coronavirus pandemic to China-U.S. tensions. In the race to succeed Abe as the next prime minister, former Defence Minister Shigeru Ishiba is the most popular choice among the public, media opinion polls showed. But Ishiba, a vocal Abe critic, could face an uphill battle

Israeli And U.S. Officials Fly To UAE To Cement ‘Normalisation’ Deal

Image
Top aides to U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu fly to the United Arab Emirates on Monday to put final touches on a pact establishing open relations between the Gulf power and Israel. Even before discussions start in Abu Dhabi, the delegates will have made aviation history by taking an Israeli commercial airliner directly from Tel Aviv to the UAE capital over Saudi territory. Announced on Aug. 13, the ‘normalisation’ deal is the first such accommodation between an Arab country and Israel in more than 20 years and was catalysed largely by shared fears of Iran. Palestinians were dismayed by the UAE’s move, worried that it would weaken a long-standing pan-Arab position that called for Israeli withdrawal from occupied territory – and acceptance of Palestinian statehood – in return for normal relations with Arab countries. LASG To Close Down Illegal Slaughterhouses, Clear Streets Of Stray Animals

Lagos State Government is set to embark on the dislodgement of illegal slabs, as well as the monitoring of all veterinary premises across the State, from Tuesday, 1st September 2020 in furtherance of the sanitisation and reform of the red meat value chain. The State Acting Commissioner for Agriculture, Ms. Abisola Olusanya, who made this known over the weekend at the re-inauguration of the Monitoring, Enforcement and Compliance (MEC) Team of the Ministry, noted that the exercise would also involve the monitoring of meat transportation and enforce stray animal control. She added that the dislodgement is necessary, especially as the State remains particular about producing wholesome and healthy meat for its residents while simultaneously ensuring that the streets are free of stray animals. Olusanya recalled that even though the dislodgement of illegal slaughterhouses had been on-going in the past three years, the need to strictly enforce meat transportation using only the designated v

DID YOU KNOW!! If You Have Done An Abortion Before or Encourage Anyone To Do So, YOU ARE A MURDERER! (See Why)

Image
ABORTION IS NOT AN OPTION! Listen! I’m not a religious person, so I’m not putting up this write up base on religious perspective. Everything I’m gonna say here is basically on SCIENCE, not FAITH . SEE EHN.. No matter how one looks at it, abortion is murder. Don’t tell me it’s a removal of tissues. You’re a bloody f*cking MURDERER! According to the science of embryology , it states that from the moment of conception, a human being is formed. The DNA it has is not only human DNA but the DNA of an individual distinct from that of either parent. See ehn.. In forensic criminology , DNA is used to distinguish one person from another. So the DNA of an embryo indicates that the embryo is a person. Therefore, if you Have Ever Had An Abortion Before or Encourage One, YOU ARE A MURDERER ! No two ways about it. Start begin the nature for forgiveness now, before it’s too late. At times you wonder why you ain’t progressing in life. Why you’re still childless after marriage. Simply b
