Don’t Let ‘hunger Virus’ Kill Us, Residents Beg Wike

Image
Residents of Rivers State especially persons living close to Mbiama, a border community between the state and Bayelsa, have begged Governor Nyesom Wike to review his total ban on markets across the state. The residents said unless the governor allowed the selling of food items in the markets, they would die of ‘hunger virus’ even before the Coronavirus would get to their areas. While they appreciated the efforts of the governor to protect Rivers citizens from the virus, the residents urged Wike to either roll out relief materials or allow the selling of only food items in markets. Mrs. Robinson, a resident of Mbiama, said the popular market had been shut down for about a week since Wike ordered the closure of all markets in the state as part of measures to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic. She said security operatives were on rampage at Mbiama market destroying food items to prevent people from either buying or selling. She said hunger compelled the people in the ar

It comes just days after British Prime Minister Boris Johnson introduced tighter restrictions around social movement last week in a bid to limit the spread of coronavirus. Residents spotted herds of goats strolling around Llandudno on Friday and over the weekend, after more than a dozen of the animals ventured down from the Great Orme headland and roamed the streets of the coastal town. Videos and pictures shared online show the goats grazing on grass from church grounds, flower beds, and residential properties. They are referred to as Great Orme Kashmiri goats, whose ancestors originated from northern India, according to the town’s official website. Town resident, Carl Triggs, was returning home after delivering personal protective equipment masks when he saw the goats. “The goats live on the hill overlooking the town. They stay up there,

Coronavirus: Buhari’s Lockdown Order Is Legal – Osinbajo

Image
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has stated that President Buhari’s lockdown order in Lagos, Ogun and the FCT is legal.  The Vice President who disclosed this while speaking at a Google Hangout, a programme organised by HACK COVID-19 Call Centre in Abuja on Monday March 30, stated that the legality of the president’s order is unnecessary because it is backed by an act of the national assembly. In a statement issued by Osinbajo’s media aide Laolu Akande, the Vice President stated that the Quarantine Act of 1926 which is published in all Nigerian laws allows the President to designate any local area, any part of the country, as a place that may be infected or under the threat of a communicable disease, and he can then make regulations of any kind. He said;  “Regarding the legality of the shutdowns announced by the President yesterday, -Sunday-I think it is entirely legal. These steps are proactive, very relevant, important and backed by law.  “I am not so sure some of the people who h

Coronavirus: Do Not Wear Masks If You Are Not Sick Or Not Caring For Someone Who Is Sick – WHO Warns

Image
World Health Organization (WHO) has warned the general populace to avoid wearing face masks during the Coronavirus pandemic unless they are sick with the virus or they are health workers in daily contact with sick people. According to the WHO, unnecessary or bad usage of masks can even help in spreading the virus, rather than contain it. “There is no specific evidence to suggest that the wearing of masks by the mass population has any potential benefit. In fact, there’s some evidence to suggest the opposite in the misuse of wearing a mask properly or fitting it properly,” Dr. Mike Ryan, executive director of the WHO health emergencies program, said at a media briefing in Geneva, Switzerland, on Monday. “There also is the issue that we have a massive global shortage,” Ryan said about masks and other medical supplies. “Right now the people most at risk from this virus are frontline health workers who are exposed to the virus every second of every day. The thought of them not having
