The  National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has arrested a 56-year-old man, Christopher Nnabuihe, for selling faked Peak Milk. The suspect, who lives at 42, Cameroun Road in Calabar, Cross River State, has confessed to the crime. A NAFDAC statement made available to Southern City News on Tuesday quoted Nnabuihe as confessing that he procured cheap powdered milk and branded and branded it as Peak Milk, which is more expensive. “I buy the already printed (Peak Milk) 440g packs from Ariaria Relieve Market in Aba, Abia State and bring it to Calabar for refilling. I seal them up with candle light. “One 50 kilogram of the milk will fill 27 pieces and that is two cartons and three pieces. I sell one carton of the fake Peak Milk for N6,000 and make a profit of N1,000 per carton. “You can only suspect it to be counterfeit through the taste because the packaging for the fake and the original is the same,” he was quoted as saying. Trump attacks, Clinton lies low as last debate nears

Image
Donald Trump fired off an erratic new broadside at Hillary Clinton Sunday, doubling down on the explosive claim that American media are colluding with his Democratic rival to rig the presidential election against him. Amid the latest blast from Trump, his Republican running mate Mike Pence sought to bring tensions down a notch by insisting his camp would accept defeat if that’s what voters decide three weeks from now, on November 8. Two polls out on Sunday — and carried out in time to gauge voter reaction to the slew of sexual misconduct allegations against Trump that emerged last week — put Clinton ahead. But they did so by vastly different numbers: an ABC News/Washington Post survey had Clinton four points ahead while an NBS News/Wall Street Journal poll put her margin at 11 points. Trump, in a burst of tweets overnight and early Sunday, said repeatedly that US media are rigging the election by hammering away at what he calls fabricated accounts that he made unwanted se

Mourinho promises Rooney ‘respect he deserves’

Image
Wayne Rooney will get the “respect he deserves” when the 30-year-old forward returns to Manchester United, manager Jose Mourinho has insisted. The dropped England captain returned to Old Trafford earlier in the week following an international break when he was booed by home fans during a 2-0 World Cup qualifying win over Malta at Wembley. Days later Rooney, England’s all-time record scorer, was left out of the subsequent goalless draw away to Slovenia by interim national manager Gareth Southgate. Rooney could well be left on the bench again by Portuguese boss Mourinho when United face bitter rivals Liverpool at Anfield on Monday. And while Rooney could well receive a rough reception in Liverpool, Mourinho has assured the striker, who launched his career with Liverpool’s city rivals Everton, of a warm welcome back at Old Trafford. “He was not booed by Man United fans,” Mourinho said. “To be honest, the last match when he went to the warm-up I was feeling Old Trafford was

Patience Jonathan won’t go scot-free – EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Wednesday vowed that the wife of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Patience, would not go scot-free if its investigation uncovers evidence of corruption against her. The Deputy Director of Operations, EFCC, Mr. Iliyasu Kwarbai, made this vow after receiving a petition against Patience and the ruling All Progressives Congress from a group of protesters, under the aegis of Human Rights Defenders and Advocacy Centre, who marched to the EFCC office in Ikoyi Lagos. The Situation in Syria is Very, Very Dangerous

In case you haven’t been paying attention, the recent Syria ceasefire lasted barely a week. While all sidesengaged in the conflict were accusing the other of violating the agreement from the beginning, it really unraveled when U.S. forces bombed Syrian government forces, killing at least 62. As CNN reported at the time: Hours after US-led coalition airstrikes reportedly killed dozens of Syrian troops, the US and Russian ambassadors to the United Nations chastised each other outside an emergency Security Council meeting. The strike occurred Saturday in an eastern part of Syria that is not a part of a delicate and nearly week-old ceasefire. The US military said it was targeting ISIS militants and if it hit Syrian troops, it was an accident. Russia and Syria said the strikes prove Washington and its allies are sympathetic to ISIS. The Russian military said 62 Syrian soldiers were killed near Deir Ezzor Airport, accordingto state media. The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights p
