A 100-level student of the department of English Language in the College of Education, Ikere-Ekiti, Ekiti State, has been disgraced and handed over to the police after the boxers belonging to his classmate was found tied with charms inside his wardrobe in the school hostel on Monday January 28th. Labour will now shift its battle and lobby to the Senate for it to concur with the House of Representatives. The anti-robbery operatives of the Enugu State Police Command, on Wednesday, dislodged a gang of suspected armed robbers, killing one while the others escaped with bullet wounds. The command’s spokesman, SP Ebere Amaraizu, who disclosed this on Thursday said the suspects were in the habit of blocking 9th Mile-Udi-Oji River-Awka Road with big stones and woods while robbing motorists. Nigerians have been warned that smoking shisha might leave them with a serious medical condition. Scientists in Sharjah and Abu Dhabi have found that Shisha pipes posed more serious medical problems compared to cigarettes. Ms Ayesha Mohammed, a chemistry lecturer at the University of Sharjah and the lead author of the study, said, “Traditional medwakh and Shisha pipes have no filters. “So toxic metals can quickly enter the lungs, causing different diseases, such as lung and oral cancers, oral infections and cardiovascular diseases. “I will never recommend dokha (medwakh) and Shisha smoking because both don’t have filters, so trace elements can easily enter human body and cause harm compared to cigarettes and cause several cancers.” Published in Oxford University Press’s Journal of Analytical Toxicology, the latest study looked at 13 medwakh tobacco products and three shisha products, analysing their properties to determine metal concentrations. The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has insisted on its earlier decision to bar the ruling All Progressives Congress APC from fielding candidates for state and federal elections in Zamfara state. The commission which had earlier said it would release the final list of governorship and state assembly candidates on Thursday however stated this late Wednesday in a statement by Festus Okoye, one of its National Commissioners and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee. Hotel workers have been accused of killing it’s London returnee-owner, Mrs Abimbola Olusola, alongside one Tunji Omikunle the manager of the facility in Lagos. A gang which included some workers of Etashol Hotel and Suites, located on Budland Street in the Ojodu Berger area of Lagos State, were accused of drugging, tying up and strangling the deceased. The hotel workers who were accused of killing the London returnee-owner who launched the business in March 2018, had issues with it. It was learnt that some of the workers defrauded the hotel of millions of naira and two of the workers were reportedly sacked, after the police were invited to look into the matter. In an alleged revenge move, the gang said to have consisted some of the sacked workers and some still in the employment of the hotel, stormed the hotel, deactivated the Closed Circuit Television cameras on the premises, dragged the manager into a toilet, where his hands and feet were tied. Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), says he gave a loan of N300million to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from privatisation proceeds to commence activities when the anti-graft agency was set up. He also said one of the ways to tackle corruption is to reduce the personal relationship between individuals in the public and private sectors.
