LET’S TALK!! Is Owning A Home or Acquiring A New Car An Achievement? And Should Be Announced/Celebrated On Social Media?

Yesterday, Nigerian singer L.A.X who recently released a new album “Zaza Vibes” acquired a brand new multi million naira mansion in Lagos State.

He took to his Instagram page to share a photo of the mansion with a caption,

“I DREAMT OF DAYS LIKE THIS

AND NOW ITS HAPPENING. I JUST
JOINED THE LANLORD ASSOCIATION
OF LAGOS”.

However, a Writer Obidi by name, in her opinion, reacted negatively to singer LAX news of becoming a landlord in Lagos; claiming that owning a house is not an achievement.🤔

She wrote,

“How do I tell my people that owing a house is not an achievement”.

Well, I agreed with her to an extent. I mean we Nigerians are fond of posting almost everything on social media. Take Davido for instance, he tweet about everything to the least ice cream he bought. That’s absurd and childish. The whites doesn’t do that.

Is on a house and achievement or not?

Truely owning a house is not an achievement in other part of the world, but a big achievement here in Nigeria. House is one of the best achievements especially in Lagos were landlords act like gods.

If you have a landlord/landlady that calls you just to remind you that your rent will expire this December, then you will know that owning a house in Nigeria is a very big achievement even bigger than having a B.Sc in Nigeria.

In summary, owning a house or acquiring a new car, is not an achievement in development countries, but a very big achievement here in Nigeria.

Posting it on social media is about individual differences and preferences. Not everyone does that. Some people have acquired multi million naira properties and never posted it on social media. While someone like Davido showcases whatever he purchases on Twitter or IG. It’s a choice. #MyOpinion
